Your friend is not coping

Advice on how to HELP.

You've noticed your friend isn't coming and you've reached out (ask them because if you don't ask you won't know). They've admitted to not coping they are struggling and feel overwhelmed. NOW YOU WONDERING WHAT TO DO NEXT....

GOLDEN RULES

Take a minute

By asking someone how they feel do make a difference. You let them know that someone DO CARE ARE THERE TO SUPPORT THEM. And that already gives them hope...

LISTENING

Make sure you are listening to what they say. Make eye contact. Don't interrupt and listen without judging. Just by sharing with you, they might start to feel relief and less isolated. You really have to focus on him and what he is saying.

ASKING QUESTIONS

It is better to ask questions than to solve their problems. Ask questions like:

-How long have you feeling this way?

-How has it been affecting you??

-How did that feel??

KEEPING IN TOUCH

It shouldn't be a once off conversation. Check in regularly. Find out how they are doing. SUPPORT THEM!!!

LOOKING AFTER YOURSELF

Hearing about their problem can affect you too. Make sure you do something you enjoy to relieve the stress.
