AWARENESS OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE PAGE 1
COCAINE/ CRACK
Cocaine was not once used as the drug of choice among rock stars and other celebrities, and the well to do, but price cuts and supplimentary imports have resulted in a rise in habitual usage and accessibility. The hit is shortlived (about 20 -30 min) therefore repeated doses are needed, or Coke is taken in conjuction with other drugs to draw out the high - and this proves to milk the user financially. Once drugs are cocktailed the effect on the CNS can prove to be extremely dangerous.
ECSTASY:
A white crystaline powder known as MDMA. Ecstasy is normally sold as a powder too.
The effect takes about half an hour to take and lasts between 3-6 hrs then gradually works outof the system. Ecstasy is also known as the "I love everyone and everyone is beautiful" drug.
HEROIN:
Herion is prepared from morphine, which presents natuarally, and is extracted from the seedpod of the Asian poppy plant. It presents in a white or brown powder.
Streetnames are smack, skag, and junk.
Heroin is habit forming and poses a serious problem worldwide. A move away from injecting, Heroin to snorting or smoking is now common as it induces improved purity. And people wrongfully believe that these forms are safer.
LSD (Acid):
LSD is a hallucinogenic drug developed from ergot, a non-cultured fungus growing wild on various grasses such as rye and wheat. The experience from LSD is known as a trip. These trips can either be good or bad. It is sold as tiny squares of paper with pictures on them mostly. A good trip can be your greatest experience, but a bad trip your worst nightmare. This is not a substance for people who like to be in control. A trip can take anything from 20 min to one hour and last plus minus 12 hrs. Once started there's no stopping it or turning back.
DATE RAPE DRUGS:
There are four substances which are commonly used in this activity.
GHB, Rohypnol and Ketamine
This gets slipped into the unsuspecting girls drinks.
Once the individual is debilitated they are then sexually assaulted or raped. Left in a helpless or unconscious state, they can't flee, refuse to accept advances, or call for help. What the perpetrator tends to forget, is that the experience often resurfaces in dreams or visions.
